Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Break the Cycle: Effective Relief from OCD in Retford and worldwide via Zoom

obsessive compulsive disorderObsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is not about being neat or tidy; it's a condition where the brain gets trapped in a loop of distressing thoughts and mandatory actions. This loop is relentless, exhausting, and significantly interferes with daily life.

We understand how debilitating this cycle can be. Our experienced therapists offer specialized, drug-free approaches to help you regain control and interrupt the compulsive loop.

What is the OCD Cycle?

Two core components characterize Obsessive Compulsive Disorder:

obsessive handwashingObsessions: Persistent, intrusive, and unwanted thoughts, images, or urges (e.g., fear of contamination, fear of causing harm, need for symmetry). These cause intense anxiety and distress.

Compulsions:
Repetitive behaviours or mental acts (e.g., excessive checking, washing, ordering, or counting) that you feel driven to perform. They are attempts to temporarily reduce the anxiety caused by the obsession, but they ultimately reinforce the loop.

The more you engage in the compulsion, the stronger the obsession becomes, locking you into a cycle that feels impossible to break.

How Our Therapeutic Approach Helps

We use a blend of advanced, gentle techniques that work with your subconscious mind to reduce the anxiety driving the OCD.

We create your personalized therapy plan, which may include Hypnotherapy, EFT, and sometimes EMDR and NLP.  It's designed to achieve two main objectives:

  1. Reduce Anxiety at the Source: Hypnotherapy helps calm the nervous system and reduces the intense emotional response triggered by the obsession.
  2. Break the Compulsive Habit: We work to detach the automatic need to perform the compulsion. You learn to observe the thought (the obsession) without feeling compelled to act on it.

This process gives you the tools to manage symptoms, reduce emotional triggers, and respond to intrusive thoughts with greater calm and control.
